Eligibility & fit

I'm studying engineering / humanities / design — is this really for me?

Yes. The fellowship isn't about training you for a finance career. It's about giving you a year of exposure, mentorship, and experiences that matter regardless of what you eventually do. Our sessions cover personal finance, entrepreneurship, communication, leadership — things that travel with you into any career. What you study at university is genuinely irrelevant to whether you'd get something out of this.

What if my family's income is just above the threshold?

Apply under the hardship lane. If your household per capita income is up to $3,000, or gross household income up to $12,000, and your family has faced real hardship — retrenchment, a medical crisis, a single-parent household, sudden loss of income, caregiving burden — tell us in the hardship statement section of the application. We review these individually. Documents help, but your story matters more than the exact number on a payslip.

My parents are self-employed / freelance / don't have clean payslips. Can I still apply?

Yes. We know not every family looks the same on paper. If you can't produce standard payslips, submit whatever you do have — bank statements, Income Tax Notice of Assessment, a written declaration from your parent explaining their work. We'll work with what's real, not penalise you for how your family earns.

I'm an athlete but not at national level — does the athlete welcome apply to me?

Yes, at any level. School team, CCA, community club, national squad — all of it counts. We name athletes specifically because we know training and academics compete for the same hours, and that discipline gets overlooked by most scholarships. We don't need you to be an Olympian. We need you to have put in the time.

I was born overseas / I'm a PR. Am I eligible?

Yes, provided you hold Singapore citizenship or PR status at the time of applying, and you're enrolled in or entering one of the six local autonomous universities from 2026 onwards.

The commitment

How much time does this actually take, month to month?

Outside the internship, expect roughly a few hours a month — one curated session plus some informal mentor contact. We've designed the cadence to be liveable alongside full-time study. Exam periods get lighter. Life happens, and the commitments reflect that.

What happens if I can't make a session?

Show up for the ones you can. The commitment is directional, not transactional. If you miss more than a few without communicating, we'll check in. If you communicate — exam week, family emergency, training camp — we work around it. The fellowship is designed to support you through school, not add another source of stress.

What if I decide halfway through that I don't want to work in financial services?

That's genuinely fine, and it's the whole reason we don't have a bond. The fellowship is designed to help you figure out what you want — and sometimes that means figuring out what you don't want. The financial support continues, the mentorship continues, and we help you pivot with grace.

Internship, money, process

What does the internship actually look like?

Structured training plus real intern work, embedded with our teams. It's not making coffee, and it's not sitting at a desk in isolation. You'll sit in real meetings, take on real projects, and get a genuine view of how an advisory firm works. An overseas business visit is part of the internship — fully funded, not optional. We'll share a video closer to applications opening with more detail.

I've never been on a plane / I don't have a passport — is the overseas trip still OK?

Completely. We've had fellows for whom this was their first time flying. AAG handles the logistics — flights, accommodation, meals, ground transport. We'll help you sort your passport if you need it. The trip is meant to be a highlight, not a barrier. Tell us early if you're worried and we'll walk through it with you.

Does the financial support affect my existing government bursaries or MOE Tuition Grant?

Generally no, but check with your university's financial aid office to be safe. The AAG Fellowship is a private award. Some scholarship and bursary schemes have rules about concurrent receipt — your university's financial aid team can tell you exactly how it interacts with what you already receive. In our experience, most students can hold both.

What happens to my income documents and personal information?

At the application stage, we only ask you to self-declare your income bracket — no documents needed. If you're shortlisted, we'll ask for documentation (payslips, Income Tax NOA, or a written declaration if your parents are self-employed) before making an offer. All documents are handled under PDPA, used only for eligibility, and deleted after the fellowship concludes.
